Romsey MP’s Office Locked Down Over Suspicious White Powder
Police and emergency services have swooped on Market Place, Romsey, after a suspicious white powder was found at the constituency office of MP Caroline Nokes. The building is now on lockdown as specialists investigate.
Emergency Teams Rush to Scene
The alarm was raised just after midday on Tuesday. Officers from Hampshire Police arrived swiftly, joined by Hampshire Fire and Rescue and South Central Ambulance Service. Staff inside were promptly evacuated as a safety precaution.
Specialist Units Scrutinise Suspicious Substance
Fire crews deployed a specialist Detection and Identification of Materials (DIM) unit. Personnel in protective hazmat suits entered the office, using advanced equipment to examine the powder. Early reports suggest it was found inside a letter opened by an employee.
Police Confirm Investigation Underway
“We have been called to Market Place, Romsey, following the discovery of a suspicious substance,” said Hampshire Police. “Officers are currently at the scene with colleagues from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and South Central Ambulance Service to deal with this incident. An address has been evacuated as a precaution.”
