10 Years On: The Mystery of Paul Harley’s Disappearance in Dumbarton
10 Years Since Paul Harley Vanished Without a Trace
Today marks a grim milestone. It’s been a whole decade since Paul Harley disappeared from his Dumbarton home, leaving his loved ones desperate for answers. The 53-year-old welder was last seen on September 28, 2014, on Whiteford Avenue in Bellsmyre.
Well-Known Local Figure Suddenly Missing
Paul, originally from Coatbridge, had settled in Dumbarton since 2008 and was a familiar face in the community. He worked for Network Rail as a welder and was active around Bellsmyre — tending community gardens and coaching the local football team. Tall, slim, with black receding hair and a tattoo bearing “Kyla” on his right arm, he had a distinctive walk: hands in pockets, head bowed.
On the day he vanished, his family say he wore jogging bottoms, a hooded top, and black-and-white Skechers trainers.
Leads Come and Go, Family Clings to Hope
Over the years, several tips surfaced, including a 2019 sighting of a homeless man in Glasgow thought to be Paul. But nothing concrete ever emerged. In August 2023, a court legally presumed Paul dead — a formality his family requested — yet their resolve remains firm. They continue to appeal for information to finally bring clarity.
Have You Seen Paul? Authorities Urge Any Info

“No matter how small the detail, it could be the key to finding Paul,” says a family spokesperson.
As the tenth anniversary passes, the hunt goes on. Paul Harley’s community and family are still hoping for the break that brings justice and closure.
