Gunman Sentenced After Shocking Rotherham Shooting

Abdullah Ishaq has been locked up for his part in a brutal shooting in Rotherham earlier this year. The violent clash left one man riddled with bullets. Yesterday (Monday 11 December), Ishaq was sentenced for the shooting and other serious crimes committed across the West Midlands.

Shot Multiple Times on Quiet Street

On 18 March 2023, police rushed to Winifred Street, Masborough after reports of multiple gunshots at around 2.30pm. Officers caught Ishaq trying to sneak away towards a taxi and arrested him on the spot.

Investigation revealed Ishaq not only took part in the shooting but returned to the scene to clear away bullet casings and other evidence.

Victim Left Fighting for Life

Police found the 22-year-old victim collapsed nearby, drifting in and out of consciousness with two gunshot wounds. He was rushed to hospital with fractured ribs, a punctured lung, plus gunshot injuries to his leg and back.

“This was an extremely alarming incident to have happened in what is described as a usually very quiet area,” said Detective Constable James Hughes.

“Residents were disturbed during their peaceful Saturday by gunshots, which is simply unacceptable.”

“We do not tolerate firearms on the streets of South Yorkshire. These weapons pose life-threatening risks. We are astounded no one else was hurt,” Hughes added.

“Without public reports, we wouldn’t have caught those responsible. It’s vital people keep reporting any suspicious firearm activity so we can bring these criminals to justice.”

Ishaq, who lives on Doncaster Road, Rotherham, pleaded guilty at Sheffield Magistrates on 5 December to multiple offences including possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear, assisting an offender, sending threatening electronic communications, intentional strangulation, and distributing private sexual videos to intimidate.

He was sentenced less than a week later at Sheffield Crown Court on 11 December, ending his violent spree across the region.
