Ferry Near-Miss Drama as Man Faces Maritime Charges

Sean Michael Gower, from Paulsgrove, Portsmouth, is set to face the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court this Thursday. He’s been hit with two serious maritime offences.

Dangerous Manoeuvre on the High Seas

Gower stands accused of dangerously cutting across the bow of a Red Funnel ferry at a hair-raising 8 metres away—while piloting a 6.5m rigid inflatable boat (RIB).

Blocked Ferry in Cowes Inner Fairway

He’s also charged with obstructing the ferry’s passage in the Inner Fairway at Cowes, reportedly impeding its safe navigation.

Maritime Coastguard Agency Steps In

The Maritime Coastguard Agency has slapped the charges on Gower under the Merchant Shipping Act 1995, highlighting the serious risk posed to the ferry, crew, and passengers.

Sean Gower now faces the court’s decision over these risky maritime offences.
