Barnsley Man Jailed for Kicking Woman Down Stairs in Two-Year Abuse Nightmare

Brutal Abuser Jailed After Kicking Woman Down Stairs

Nigel Hallam, once of Tudor Way, has been locked up after a shocking campaign of violence against his victim. In a terrifying attack, he violently kicked her down the stairs, adding to a long list of abuse.

Two Years of Torment

His victim endured relentless physical and psychological abuse throughout 2020 and 2021. Hallam didn’t just hurt her physically — he controlled her mind with manipulative and coercive behaviour that left her trapped in fear.

Justice Served at Sheffield Crown Court

Hallam was arrested on 11 January 2022 and charged with domestic abuse offences. In February, a jury at Sheffield Crown Court found him guilty of controlling or coercive behaviour and assault by beating.

On 26 April, he was sentenced to 14 months behind bars and slapped with a six-year restraining order to keep him away from his victim.

Police Praise Victim’s Bravery

“I am pleased that Hallam has been handed the immediate custodial sentence he rightly deserves,” said T/Sergeant Samuel Mitchell.

“His cruel and callous actions caused his victim to suffer over two years, and he showed no empathy.”

“I would like to thank the victim for her bravery coming forward and reporting what happened. Whilst the sentence can never undo Hallam’s atrocious actions, I hope it can help provide his victim with the first steps towards healing.

“It is thanks to her that a dangerous individual is now behind bars where he belongs.”

Support Available for Domestic Abuse Victims

T/Sgt Mitchell urged anyone suffering abuse to speak out.

“If you or a loved one has been affected by domestic abuse, please know it is not your fault. The offender is to blame.

“We are here to listen, support, and bring offenders to justice.

“You can report abuse by calling 101, 999 in an emergency, or using our online portal.”
