Reckless Driver Caught After High-Speed Chase with Kids On Board

Mohammed Yusuf Ali, 25, from Penhill, Swindon, was slammed with a 14-month jail sentence and banned from driving for three years. The harsh penalty came after Ali pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, possessing cannabis, and failing to stop after a crash.

Cop Chase Sparks Alarm on Swindon Streets

On August 23, 2023, Roads Policing officers on patrol in Swindon spotted Ali’s Volvo V70 on Cricklade Road. Its heavily tinted windows raised suspicion. When signalled to pull over, Ali slammed the accelerator instead, sparking a high-speed police chase.

Ali tore through Chapel Street and Gorse Hill, hitting speeds of 70mph in a 30mph zone. He blew through several red lights, forcing other drivers to dodge out of harm’s way. The pursuit ended after Ali smashed into a stationary Transit Tipper van, ripping off its wing mirror.

Four Young Kids Found in Car During Dangerous Ride

Ali ditched the car in a Southbrook Road pub car park and tried to flee by climbing a fence. That’s when officers made a shocking discovery: four children under five years old were crammed in the back seats, including one child standing in the footwell without a seatbelt.

Ali was also caught with cannabis during the arrest.

PC Nick Slade of the Roads Policing Unit said: “This pursuit was incredibly dangerous – high speed through a residential area across busy junctions and multiple traffic lights. Finding Ali carrying four children, one unrestrained, was appalling. He showed total disregard for their lives. Other road users had to act fast to avoid disaster. Ali admitted in interview he put those children at risk. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the trauma these kids endured will likely stick with them.”
