Horror on Rotherham Road: Woman Murdered, Husband Charged
Emergency services rushed to a home on Rotherham Road, Monk Bretton, on Saturday, May 21, only to find Julie Youel, 53, with fatal injuries. Despite frantic efforts by officers and paramedics, Julie was pronounced dead at the scene.
Husband Arrested After Claiming Attack and Self-Harm
Darren Youel, 54, was hospitalised with serious stab wounds. He dialled 999, admitting he had stabbed Julie before injuring himself. Police arrested him on suspicion of murder. “Because of Youel’s actions that evening, a family has lost their mother and now their father,” said Detective Chief Inspector Jade Brice.
Life Sentence for Darren Youel
Darren Youel, previously of Rotherham Road, Barnsley, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing. On Friday, July 29, he was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court to life in prison with a minimum term of 12 and a half years.
“This has been an incredibly tragic and upsetting case for Julie’s loved ones,” said Detective Chief Inspector Jade Brice. “At Julie’s request, we respectfully ask for privacy as the family grieves and the judicial process concludes.”
