Burglar Caught Red-Handed After Blood Trace Left at Crime Scene
Kieron Russell, 32, smashed into an empty unit at Newark’s Maltings Retail Park on the evening of 2 July 2022. He made off with an electric generator, leaving behind a telling clue—a trace of blood on broken glass.
Series of Thefts Leads to Jail Time
Thanks to the forensic evidence, police quickly zeroed in on Russell. He appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday 20 February, where he pled guilty to burglary and was sentenced to 12 months in jail. In addition to the generator theft, Russell admitted stealing a television from a supported living complex on Mather Road on 13 July, caught red-handed on CCTV. On the same day, he also confessed to stealing electrical goods from a shop nearby.
Local Police Praise Swift Justice
Russell, from Queen Street, Gainsborough, was ordered to pay compensation for his crimes.
PC Greg Trease-Somers of Nottinghamshire Police said: “Russell may think he has the right to steal whatever he wants from other people, but we don’t agree. Burglaries like these hit local businesses hard and are always fully investigated.
“Thanks to the thorough investigation and damning forensic evidence, Russell had little choice but to plead guilty. I’m pleased he’s been jailed and hope this time behind bars makes him rethink his life choices.”
