Care Worker Caught on CCTV Abusing Dementia Patients
Shocking Abuse Caught on Camera
Sharlene Bosita was filmed on CCTV at a Chesterfield care home committing nearly 40 acts of cruelty. Her victims? Three vulnerable residents in their 80s suffering from dementia. Bosita’s sickening behaviour included throwing water at them, fake elbow strikes, slapping with gloves, and violently pushing and pulling the frail elderly around.
How the Abuse Was Uncovered
The horrific treatment came to light when staff reviewed CCTV footage for an unrelated matter. They spotted Bosita pushing a resident into a chair, which sparked a full investigation. Digging deeper into the footage revealed the shocking extent of her violence. The police swooped and the CPS charged her with three counts of ill-treatment or neglect by a care worker.
Guilty and Sentenced
Bosita pleaded guilty to all charges at Derby Crown Court in February and was today sentenced to nine months behind bars. Graham Heathcote from the CPS condemned her actions: “Sharlene Bosita behaved with callous cruelty towards three people she was employed to look after and protect. While the level of violence was relatively minor individually, over time it caused significant emotional and physical harm to her victims.”
Care Home Policies Under Scrutiny
The CPS made sure Bosita’s actions were deliberate before pressing charges. They also investigated the care home’s policies and response, ensuring there was a clear gap between what was expected of staff and Bosita’s horrific conduct.
