Driver Jailed for Six Years Over Fatal Crash that Killed Police Staffer
Connor Wilsher, 21, has been locked up for six years after a devastating crash on Leicester’s A47 claimed the life of Local Support Team Officer Darcy Elizabeth Reid.
Fatal Head-On Crash on A47
On Saturday, 3 July 2021, Darcy, 23, was driving her Nissan Micra citybound along Hinckley Road near Braunstone Park when tragedy struck. Wilsher, behind the wheel of a VW Golf, attempted to overtake on a dangerous bend and smashed head-on into Darcy’s car.
Darcy suffered multiple injuries and died in hospital weeks later. Wilsher fled the scene but was caught shortly after when he showed up at a hospital for treatment.
Guilty Plea and Sentence
On 30 August, Wilsher pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and failing to stop after a road accident. Today, at Leicester Crown Court, he was sentenced to six years behind bars. He was also banned from driving for two years and must pass an extended driving test before he gets back on the road.
Justice for Darcy
“After the collision, Wilsher left the scene but was later found when he came to hospital for treatment,” said Detective Sergeant Ed Des-Chanelle from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit. “He initially denied involvement but admitted to dangerous driving during the investigation. He now faces a lengthy prison term for his actions.”
Darcy’s devastated father, Simon Reid, added: “On behalf of my family, I want to thank our family liaison officer and the investigating officers for their support and hard work in getting justice today. Today’s sentencing won’t bring Darcy back – we started a life sentence the day she passed. We just want to be left alone to grieve our beloved daughter.”
