Ex-Met Cop Caught Filming Nude Shower Users in Essex Leisure Centre
A former Metropolitan Police officer has been exposed for secretly filming adults in a leisure centre shower. Andrew Adams, previously attached to the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, was found guilty of misconduct and sentenced for his disturbing actions.
Secret Recording in Changing Room
The shocking incident took place on 29 February 2020 at a Witham, Essex leisure centre while Adams was off duty. CCTV evidence revealed Adams placing his mobile phone against a door facing the shower and changing area, capturing footage of unsuspecting adults using the facility.
Justice Served: Fines, Community Work & Ban from Policing
On 21 September, Adams was convicted at Chelmsford Crown Court. He faces £3,500 in prosecution costs, a £750 compensation payout, and must complete 150 hours of unpaid community work within nine months. A misconduct panel ruled he would have been instantly dismissed had he still been serving.
Detective Chief Superintendent Steve Ellen slammed Adams, saying:
“Former PC Adams’ actions were criminal and it is right that he no longer works for the Met. As the Commissioner has said, integrity is the foundation of policing. People rightly expect us to uphold the highest standards. We will not allow those who carry out criminal behaviour to remain in the organisation.”
Adams resigned from the Met on 31 May 2021 and has now been added to the Barred List held by the College of Policing. This blacklist prevents him from working in any police force, local policing bodies, or related regulatory organisations.
