Ex-Teacher, 75, Faces Child Sex Abuse Charges from 1960s-80s

Piers Le Cheminant, 75, a retired man from Newton Abbot, Devon, has been summoned to appear at Worthing Magistrates Court on 2nd February 2021. He faces serious charges of indecently assaulting 10 boys at Oakwood Preparatory School, Chichester between 1966 and 1980.

He is also accused of sexually assaulting 5 boys at Salisbury Cathedral School from 1981 to 1985.

Decades-Old Allegations Spark High-Profile Probe

The charges came after Sussex Police’s Complex Abuse Unit launched an investigation in 2017, prompted by new information. The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the prosecution.

“These allegations relate to incidents that occurred over 35 years ago and have no link to current staff, management, or pupils,” police stated.

Schools Fully Cooperate with Investigation

Both Oakwood Preparatory and Salisbury Cathedral Schools’ current management have fully cooperated with authorities throughout the probe.

The case has shocked local communities and highlighted the ongoing challenges of uncovering historic abuse in educational institutions.
