Hero Cop’s Life-Saving Aid After Horrific Radford Car Crash
Brutal Crash Leaves Devastation in Radford
Nottinghamshire Police Constable Ryan Baxter arrived within minutes to a scene of utter chaos after a two-car smash on Hartley Road, Radford. The collision involved a Peugeot 208 and a Nissan Micra, leaving bodies and debris strewn across the carriageway.
“Straight away I thought everyone involved would be dead, such was the carnage,” PC Baxter said.
Cop’s Calm First Aid Saves Potentially Life-Changing Injuries
Among the worst injured was a front seat passenger in the Peugeot who had been thrown through the windscreen, suffering serious head and leg wounds. PC Baxter jumped into action, administering first aid and keeping the man calm while awaiting paramedics.
“The injuries were so serious, I feared he might lose his eyesight or even a leg,” he revealed. “Advanced first aiders guided us over the phone while we juggled three casualties.”
PC Baxter accompanied the patient to hospital and stayed updated on his condition, though the final outcome remains unknown. The hospital consultant praised Baxter’s efforts, saying his intervention prevented further injury.
Crash Details and Aftermath
- The Nissan driver was trapped and suffered a broken leg, requiring surgery.
- The Peugeot driver was rescued from the burning wreck by police and treated for minor injuries.
- The Peugeot driver later admitted dangerous driving causing serious injury, along with driving disqualified and uninsured.
- He was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in jail, banned from driving for three years, and must pass an extended test before regaining his licence.
Recognition for a Steely Response
PC Baxter, a nearly five-year force veteran, was honoured at Nottinghamshire Police’s awards night at Mansfield Town FC for his professionalism and dedication under intense pressure.
“It’s great to be recognised by your peers,” he said humbly. “You just think about what you’d do if it was someone you cared for – you’d do everything to help.”
