Brutal Attack in Shopping Precinct: Man Killed for Trying to Keep Warm
Ashley Pace, 35, homeless and on the run from justice, has finally been sentenced at Wolverhampton Crown Court. He pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of 38-year-old Jagdev Singh Lally.
Fury Over Senseless Violence
On 14 April 2020, Pace violently dragged Mr Lally from under his blankets in a shopping precinct where he was desperately trying to keep warm. Pace then kicked the defenceless man repeatedly, landing a savage blow to his head. The force was so severe it caused irreversible brain damage. Despite urgent hospital treatment, Mr Lally tragically died from his injuries.
CCTV and Witnesses Seal the Case
Initially, Pace denied any involvement. But CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts demolished his claims. With the evidence stacked against him, he had no choice but to admit guilt on 19 November 2020, pleading guilty to manslaughter.
Karen Nicholls of the CPS said: “The evidence showed Mr Lally was brutally kicked and killed by Ashley Pace for doing no more than trying to keep warm. The attack was senseless and completely unjustified.”
“Thanks go to the witnesses whose bravery led to his conviction. My thoughts are with Mr Lally’s devastated parents.”
