Mounted Police Snatch Knife from London Streets After High-Speed Chase
A nasty knife has been snatched off London’s streets thanks to quick-thinking police on horseback — after the suspect ditched it mid-chase.
Suspect Flees on Bike, Dumps Weapon
It all kicked off around 3.30pm on Wednesday, 30 December, when two Met Mounted officers spotted two lads acting shady in an alley near Lawrence Close, E3. The officers noticed they smelled of cannabis and tried to question them.
One male jumped on his bike and bolted. Cue a pursuit by mounted cops Police Horse Judge and rider PC Edward Bromilow, with PC Adam Wickens on ‘Penny’ close behind.
Horsepower Loses Out but Public Comes Through
The suspect sped through a narrow, low-roofed estate path horses couldn’t follow and vanished. A search turned up nothing — until a helpful member of the public tipped off officers about an item tossed into a bush nearby. A swift search revealed a large knife.
Officers Praise Horses and Public for Community Safety
“Judge and Penny have helped remove a knife from the streets that might otherwise have been used to inflict serious harm on someone,” said PC Bromilow. “We’re proud of them and grateful to the public who came forward. It shows how police and communities can work together to fight knife crime.”
The grateful officers even offered their good Samaritan a tour of the stables as a thank you.
