Stabbed in Shaftesbury Road: Two Men Jailed After Brutal Attack
Victim Airlifted After Lung Collapses
On Wednesday 16 August 2023, police on patrol in Shaftesbury Road were approached by a man suffering from stab wounds. The victim told officers he’d been attacked by two men he knew.
An ambulance was called immediately, and the victim was airlifted to a London hospital. Doctors confirmed he had a collapsed lung. Thankfully, he was discharged later to recover at home.
Police Hunt Ends with Arrests on Albert Road
Police swiftly traced a suspicious car believed to be carrying the attackers. The vehicle was stopped on Albert Road, where two men were arrested.
Lewis Whittington, 19, with no fixed address, and Kenny Harmsworth, 23, from Walden Court, were both charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a bladed article. Whittington also faced charges for possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply.
Harsh Sentences for Violent Offenders
At canterbury/" title="Canterbury" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Canterbury Crown Court on 3 May 2024, Whittington was jailed for seven and a half years. Harmsworth received five and a half years behind bars.
Police Vow to Crack Down on Knife Crime
Detective Sergeant Vanessa Law of East Kent CID said: “Whittington and Harmsworth are violent offenders whose despicable actions left their victim fighting for his life.
“Thanks to the quick reactions of police officers, the victim was rushed to hospital and given vital treatment. I am pleased these criminals have been brought to justice and hope the victim finds some closure. There is no place for knife crime on the streets of Kent, and we will continue to pursue perpetrators relentlessly.”
