Cold-blooded killer Stephanie Langley jailed for stabbing landlord to death in broad daylight
Premeditated Attack Ends in Tragedy
Stephanie Langley was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court for a brutal, unprovoked assault that led to the death of 52-year-old Matthew Bryant.
The shocking attack unfolded on 11 September 2023 around 6pm on Lower Boxley Road, after Langley drove to the Hare and Hounds pub and argued with Mr Bryant.
Knife Retrieval and Fatal Stabbing
Not done, Langley drove to Maidstone East train station to grab a large kitchen knife from her car before returning to the scene.
Mr Bryant was outside the pub, on the phone to 999 reporting the confrontation. Langley approached and knocked his phone to the floor. When he bent down to pick it up, she stabbed him twice in the back then delivered a fatal blow to his chest.
Swift Arrest and Court Conviction
Kent Police arrested Langley at the scene shortly after the attack. The 54-year-old from Wilsons Lane, East Farleigh, denied murder but pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon.
Following a trial, Langley was convicted of murder on 1 May 2024. On 30 May, she was sentenced to a minimum of 24 years before she can apply for parole.
Detective Speaks Out
“Langley murdered a much-loved husband and popular landlord in cold blood. She planned her attack, stashing the murder weapon ahead of her trip. She had no regard for anyone, carrying out this brutal attack in broad daylight.” — Detective Chief Inspector David Higham
He also thanked witnesses who helped police with their investigation, hoping Mr Bryant’s family and friends can now begin to heal knowing justice has been served.
