Massive Factory Blaze in Wolverhampton: Over 150 Firefighters Battle Inferno

A colossal fire has erupted across multiple factory units in Lower Horseley Fields, Wolverhampton, sparking a major emergency. More than 150 firefighters with 20 fire engines are struggling to contain the roaring blaze.

Loud Bangs and Explosions Rock the Area

Residents reported hearing loud bangs and described the noise as ‘explosions’ on Monday, December 5. The fire quickly spread through a derelict factory and adjacent units, prompting a grave response from fire crews.

Evacuations and Transport Chaos

  • Smoke has forced evacuations to two nearby leisure centres, arranged by Wolverhampton Council.
  • Local residents have been urged to keep windows and doors tightly shut amid thick smoke.
  • All trains through Wolverhampton have been halted, with disruption expected until the end of service, says National Rail.
  • Roads in the vicinity are also closed due to heavy smoke and firefighting efforts.

Fire Crews Fight from All Angles With High-Tech Backup

West Midlands Fire Service confirmed the fire now covers an area roughly 200m by 200m. The initial blaze started just after 9 pm on a factory around 15m by 30m.

“We have more than 20 fire engines on scene, using two hydraulic platforms. Water is being pumped in from a nearby canal using our High Volume Pumping Unit. A thermal imaging drone is providing an aerial view to help coordinate operations,” said the fire service at 11:10 pm.

The situation was declared a major incident shortly after 10 pm due to the fire’s size and proximity to homes and a nearby railway line.

Firefighters continue to create fire breaks to stop the blaze spreading further. The public is urged to stay clear and keep safe as crews battle this intense Wolverhampton inferno.
