Couple Busted for Running Puppy Scam Across UK and Poland

Artur and Joanna Kramer have been caught running an illegal puppy selling business, defying UK pet laws and raking in over £16,000. The couple shuttled between Poland and the UK every six weeks, bringing in falsely described litters to sell online for more than £1,000 each.

Illegal Puppy Trade Uncovered

The Kramers advertised puppies on popular sites like Pets4Homes and Gumtree. But council reports revealed their pups were bred abroad and misrepresented. UK law requires pet sellers to have a proper license, provide suitable care, and ensure animals are transported legally — rules the couple blatantly ignored.

Charges and Court Date Set

  • Artur and Joanna each face charges of unlicensed puppy selling and money laundering.
  • Both accused of illegally transporting animals into the UK.
  • Artur also charged with unauthorised transportation.
  • Joanna faces charges over the illegal importation of 43 dogs.

The couple pleaded guilty and will be sentenced at Southampton Crown Court on 16 March 2022. Unlicensed pet sellers risk up to six months in jail, unlimited fines, and potential bans on running pet businesses.

Council Warns Buyers to Beware

“The rules around the sale of pets are important to protect animals and owners, so I’m thankful to council colleagues for pursuing enforcement action. The advice for anyone buying is to always watch out for extortionate prices, monitor sellers’ listing history, and only buy from reputable, licensed businesses,” said Councillor Daniel Fitzhenry, Leader of Southampton City Council.
