BMW Driver Caught Doing 135mph on M4 Near Chippenham
Daniel Stewart, 34, from Swindon, was nailed tearing down the M4 at a shocking 135mph near Chippenham just before midnight on May 26. The Roads Policing Officer on patrol clocked his BMW 440i Sport speeding at nearly double the 70mph limit.
Swift Justice Served at Swindon Court
The motorway menace was pulled over and given a Traffic Offence Report on the spot. He faced the music at Swindon Magistrates Court on February 21, where he pleaded guilty to reckless speeding.
£320 Fine and a 3-Month Ban for Dangerous Driver
Stewart was slapped with a £320 fine, a 90-day driving disqualification, plus a £34 victim surcharge and £85 in prosecution costs. The message from the courts? Speed kills, and the law won’t tolerate it.
PC Steve Harding blasted: “Stewart was driving at almost twice the legal limit when he was caught – this is completely unacceptable.”
“The M4 might have looked quiet, but there’s always risk of hazards like wildlife, road damage, or debris from heavy goods vehicles at night,” Harding warned. “At that speed, Stewart wouldn’t have had a chance to react safely, putting his life and others in grave danger.”
