Wembley Man Found Guilty of Multiple Child Sex Offences
Subrahmaniam Sathananthan, 61, of Pembroke Close, Wembley, was found guilty of 10 sex offences at Isleworth Crown Court on Tuesday 21 March.
Ten Charges Unveiled
- One count of indecent assault on a male under the Sexual Offences Act 1956;
- Seven counts of indecent assault;
- Two counts of indecency with a child under the Indecency Act 1960.
Trusted Family Friend Exploited Children
The shocking abuse came to light after two reports were made to police on 27 April 2019. Victims, a girl and a boy known to Sathananthan, revealed he abused his position of trust as a family friend.
The girl was aged just 12, the boy between 9 and 13, when the assaults took place in their own homes. Sathananthan, regularly invited over for dinners and socializing, asked the victims to help with his business paperwork in their bedrooms. Instead, he abused this private setting to carry out the sexual assaults, telling the girl: “Just between you and me” and “no-one else needs to know.”
Over the years, he showered the girl with expensive gifts like sunglasses and perfumes to keep her silent.
Victims Speak Out Years Later
The abuse was only revealed years later, when the female victim disclosed it during a family Skype call while at university. This prompted the male victim to come forward with his own harrowing account, detailing how Sathananthan assaulted him when he was alone at home.
Sathananthan was arrested on 10 May 2019 but denied all allegations.
Justice and Support for Victims
Sentencing is set for 16 June 2023 at Isleworth Crown Court.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Smithson said: “I commend the bravery of both victim-survivors in coming forward and reporting the assaults. My team and I have ensured full support throughout the investigation as we worked towards justice for them.
“I want to reiterate that anyone reporting a sexual offence, historic or current, will be listened to and believed from the start.”
