Man Jailed for Shooting Up Bolton Home
Anthony Kirwan of Oak Lane, Whitefield, was sentenced to five years behind bars and an extra three years on license at Bolton Crown Court on Tuesday 22 December 2020. He pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
Bullet Holes and Horror in Bolton
It was a terrifying night on 6 September 2018 when a Bolton woman woke to loud banging at her door on Eastwood Close. Rushing down, she soon spotted multiple bullet holes riddling her living room window and front door.
One bullet ripped through the entire house and lodged itself in the kitchen fridge. CCTV footage revealed a Citroen C1 Flair cruising onto Winterfield Drive before looping down Eastwood Close, passing the victim’s house, then driving to the cul-de-sac’s end before turning back.
Gunman Caught by DNA and CCTV
The car was linked to Kirwan through a relative’s insurance. Footage showed Kirwan and an accomplice park nearby, then approach the victim’s home on foot. They fired the gun and fled the scene.
DNA from a spent cartridge at the scene matched Kirwan’s, sealing his fate.
“Kirwan’s actions that evening were dangerous, reckless and completely unacceptable,” said Detective Sergeant Joanne Little of GMP’s Bolton District.
“Thankfully no one was injured, but the consequences could have been devastating. The incident shook the house occupants and local community.
GMP remains committed to keeping our streets safe and removing firearms from the area. Today’s sentence is a reassurance for the people of Greater Manchester.”
