Man Gets 12 Years for Brutal Lockdown Attack with Brass Bowl
Christopher Brand was slammed with a 12-year jail term at Bristol Crown Court on Monday, November 16, after a jury found him guilty of a vicious domestic attack last March.
Coronavirus Argument Turns Violent
The court heard Brand, 57, downed a bottle of wine before sparking a furious row with his partner over lockdown rules on March 17. In a shocking moment, he grabbed a heavy metal brass bowl and smashed it over her head at 12:30 pm.
The victim suffered multiple severe cuts to the back of her head, losing a dangerous amount of blood. She fled to neighbours who called for help. At the hospital, she needed 30 stitches to stop the bleeding.
Close Brush With Death
A medical expert revealed the woman was lucky to avoid permanent brain damage. Without urgent treatment, her injuries could have been fatal.
Brand tried to cover up the crime by cleaning the scene and hiding his bloodied clothes before police arrived. But forensic evidence sealed his fate.
Justice Served and Restraining Order Issued
Judge Lambert said Brand posed a significant danger. An indefinite restraining order bans him from contacting the victim or her daughter.
“I am reassured to see the dedication of the crown prosecution and the police services,” said Judge Lambert.
Detective Constable Harvey Ahern blasted Brand’s “vicious attack” and praised neighbours for their “great levels of kindness” in helping the victim. Detective Constable David Allan saluted the victim’s bravery and urged others suffering abuse to seek help.
