In the early hours of Wednesday 14 December 2022, Kent Police rushed to Dover to assist HM Coastguard after a distress call reported a small boat stranded at sea.
Multi-Agency Search Brings 39 to Safety
A major search and rescue operation was launched, successfully bringing 39 people safely ashore. Tragically, four others were found dead.
Serious Crime Team Launches Investigation
The circumstances behind the deaths are under intense investigation by detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate. The National Crime Agency has also stepped in to assist.
Man Charged with Manslaughter Faces Court
Ibrahima Bah, 19, currently of no fixed address, has been charged with four counts of manslaughter. He is due to appear at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 13 April 2023.
Bah was already charged with facilitating attempted illegal entry into the UK and is set to face trial later this year.
