Walsall Man Caught in Drug and Ammo Sting After Four-Week Trial
Waheed Zaman, 42, from Deakin Avenue, Walsall, was found guilty on April 25, 2023, after a four-week trial at Loughborough Nightingale Court. He faced charges of attempting to possess prohibited ammunition and supplying a Class A drug.
Manchester Man Pleads Guilty in Same Case
Aweis Bashir, 27, from Parrs Wood Road, Manchester, admitted guilt last week on April 21. His charges included conspiracy to acquire prohibited ammunition, involvement in supplying Class A and B drugs, and encouraging criminal activity.
EncroChat Network Finally Busted
Both men operated using the now-shuttered EncroChat encrypted messaging network. Initially, they denied being the users behind the EncroChat phones. But the National Crime Agency (NCA) and CPS cracked the case by matching tech data and message content from their personal and EncroChat devices.
The duo will be sentenced at a future date.
