Murderer Jailed for Brutal Killing of Beloved Mum, Nelly

Jayesh Gobar, 36, from Maidenbower, Crawley, was found guilty of murdering 58-year-old Nelly Myers at Hove Crown Court on Monday, 14 December. The chilling discovery came after Nelly’s sons alerted police when she failed to answer their calls.

Police Find Nelly’s Body After Disturbance

Officers forced entry into Nelly’s home on Court Meadow Close, Rotherfield, on 18 December 2019. Inside, they found clear signs of a struggle and Nelly’s lifeless body in the hallway. Witnesses reported hearing shouting from the property, sparking a full murder investigation.

Guilty Man’s Blood-Stained Clothes Seal His Fate

Nelly’s on-off partner Gobar was arrested the same afternoon. Forensic tests revealed blood on Gobar’s clothing matched Nelly’s, tying him directly to the brutal attack. Evidence showed Gobar and Nelly had been inside the house together before an altercation turned deadly. Nelly suffered multiple injuries, including blunt force trauma to her head, neck, and chest.

Life Behind Bars: Gobar Gets 27 Years Minimum

After a two-week trial, Gobar was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 27 years. He had tried to hinder the investigation by refusing to give an account during police interviews.

“This was a vicious and sustained attack on Nelly,” said Detective Superintendent Alex Geldart. “Gobar repaid Nelly’s kindness with unprovoked violence, leading to this tragic loss. My team worked tirelessly to bring him to justice.”

The family of Nelly Myers commented: “We are relieved to see justice done for Mum. Though devastated by her loss, we look forward to honouring her memory and celebrating the joy she brought to so many.”

Detective Geldart urged the media to respect the family’s privacy as they come to terms with their heartbreaking loss.
