Predator Ashley McDowell Jailed for Sex Crimes Against Teens

Ashley McDowell, 39 and of no fixed address, has been found guilty at Bristol Crown Court of multiple sexual offences against teenage girls stretching back to 2013.

Historic Assault and New Evidence Lead to Conviction

McDowell was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman in her late teens in 2013 after offering her a lift home from a night out. Although police investigated at the time, they couldn’t identify a suspect—until six years later.

While probing sexual offences against two teenage girls in 2019, officers uncovered evidence linking McDowell to the 2013 assault. This included social media screenshots showing public warnings about a predator, with someone identifying him in the comments.

Shocking Messages and DNA Evidence

  • Police found messages on McDowell’s phone where he offered a 16-year-old girl money, trainers, and alcohol in exchange for sex.
  • His DNA was also discovered on the clothing of a missing girl, later found unconscious in his bed.

McDowell was consequently convicted of sexual activity without consent and attempting to incite the sexual exploitation of a child.

Police Condemn Dangerous Offender

“Ashley McDowell is a predator who has taken advantage of vulnerable women and girls over a number of years,” said Detective Sergeant Harriet Drewett.

“We will never give up pursuing dangerous offenders like him and I hope this case demonstrates to the public no case is ever closed.”

“If you have been affected by this inquiry then please don’t hesitate to contact us. You will be believed and we will always support you and seek to get you the justice you deserve no matter how much time has passed.”
