Man Jailed for Brutal Knife Attack on Partner

Duncan Haslam, 55, of Chester Road, Helsby, has been locked up for eight years after seriously injuring his partner with a kitchen knife in the early hours of August 16. The violent assault left the victim with a deflated lung and other severe injuries.

Cover-Up Attempt Fails

Haslam delayed calling for help and tried to pin the attack on unknown assailants, forcing his partner to back his false story. But while receiving hospital treatment, she bravely revealed the truth to officers. It emerged this was just the latest episode in a history of abuse, including a broken finger caused when Haslam hurled an ashtray at her weeks earlier.

Justice Served at Derby Crown Court

Despite Haslam’s claims denying intent to cause grievous harm, the jury saw through the lies. He was found guilty after a three-day trial and sentenced to eight years behind bars.

“This was a violent attack, which could quite easily have had an even more devastating and tragic outcome,” said Detective Constable Jonathan Reeves of the Public Protection Unit. “The victim showed immense courage by speaking out and giving evidence.

“We hope this sentence reassures victims of domestic abuse that we take these crimes seriously and will do all we can to bring offenders to justice.”
