Tree-trimming conman jailed for ripping off vulnerable victim

Fake neighbour scams £200 over imaginary garden repairs

Sean Fury, 40, from St Thomas Road, Luton, pulled a slick stunt pretending to be a new neighbour. He told his victim on Barton Road he’d moved into a house with a shared garden and needed to trim some trees to tidy his back fence.

Fury claimed he had a £400 quote for the work and asked the victim to cough up half. The trusting homeowner agreed and handed over £200 the next day when Fury came back to collect.

Police spot dodgy behaviour and swoop

Police officers patrolling nearby quickly grew suspicious when Fury, who called himself ‘Tim,’ was seen leaving the victim’s home. They checked on the victim and uncovered Fury’s fib — he didn’t live anywhere near the address he claimed.

He was promptly arrested and confronted with the evidence.

Jail time for the burglar with a shady alias

Fury later pleaded guilty to burglary at Luton Crown Court on Wednesday, 6 July. He was handed a hefty sentence of two years and eight months behind bars.

“Fury was caught thanks to the swift action of officers keeping a close eye,”

said Detective Constable Jason Wheeler from the burglary unit, Operation Maze. “We hope this sentence helps Fury reflect and get the support he needs to turn his life around. We’ll keep cracking down on crooks preying on vulnerable homeowners.”
