Gang Member Nabbed with Samurai Sword and Drugs in Clapham

Terrel Doyley Caught Red-Handed

Terrel Doyley, 23, from Gosling Way, Lambeth, has been jailed for six months for possession of a bladed weapon, plus an extra day for holding a Class C drug. The sentence came after he pleaded guilty last month.

On 12 November 2020, police stopped a vehicle on Clapham Common Southside where Doyley was a passenger. The rear door suddenly burst open, and Doyley made a run for it.

Officers chased and caught him on Lynette Avenue. A search revealed cannabis in his coat.

Samurai Sword Found on the Run

While tracking Doyley’s escape route, a member of the public alerted police to something dropped nearby. Police found a Samurai-style sword on Cavendish Road.

At the time, Doyley was already under a Gang Injunction, banning him from carrying knives or offensive weapons. Despite this, he was caught red-handed.

Guilty Pleas After Forensic Evidence

Initially denying possession of the blade, Doyley changed his plea after forensic tests linked him to the sword. He admitted to possessing cannabis, too.

Police Credit Operation Sceptre for Keeping Streets Safe

Detective Constable James Preston praised the joint effort between the Central South BCU and Violent Crime Task Force. He explained how Operation Sceptre targets violent crime with weapons sweeps, focused patrols, and strategic arrests.

“The offences Doyley pleaded guilty to are serious and deeply connected to violent crime in our communities,” said Preston. “Using gang injunctions and police tactics is vital in stopping dangerous offenders before more lives are lost.”

Doyley’s Gang Injunction also restricted him from visiting certain places and contacting specific people, reflecting his violent behaviour.

Preston added, “This case shows why we must use every tool available to tackle repeat offenders and keep London safer.”
