Martin Lewis Urges Pensioners to Claim Up to £3,900 in Pension Credit
Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis has blasted an urgent warning to pensioners: don’t miss out on up to £3,900 in financial support. He’s urging anyone over State Pension age with an income under £235 a week to check if they qualify for Pension Credit, a vital government benefit that boosts low incomes.
Who Qualifies for Pension Credit?
Pension Credit is a top-up payment for people over State Pension age struggling with living costs. Importantly, you don’t need to be receiving the State Pension to claim. Lewis says, “If you’re 66 or over with income under £235/wk, DON’T STALL, JUST CALL.”
He explains the brackets: “If your income is under £218 a week (£333 for couples), you’re very LIKELY to get Pension Credit. Between £218 and £235 (£333 to £350 for couples), you might still qualify — especially if you claim disability benefits or have caring duties.”
More Than Just Cash – Unlock Extra Benefits
Pension Credit isn’t just a cash boost. It also unlocks other perks, including:
- Council tax reductions
- Free TV licenses (for those over 75)
- Help with dental and optical costs
- Extra support for heating bills and housing costs
Lewis has teamed up with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to spread the word, highlighting that around a million low-income pensioners who’ve contributed for years miss out by not claiming.
How to Check & Claim Now
Pension Credit tops up your income to a minimum of £218.15 a week for singles and £332.95 for couples. Disabled pensioners could get an extra £81 per week.
Currently, 1.4 million pensioners are receiving it, but many thousands are still missing out. Don’t let that be you.
If you think you qualify, visit www.gov.uk/pension-credit or ring the helpline on 0800 99 1234 (0808 100 6165 in Northern Ireland) now.
“It’s a tragedy that so many low-income pensioners are missing out on what can be a crucial financial top-up,” Lewis warns. “Even a small amount is worth claiming — Pension Credit opens the door to many other entitlements.”
