Man Jailed for Murder of William Rudiak in Andover
A young man has been locked up for 28 years after being found guilty of murdering 26-year-old William Rudiak. Ben Harvey, 22, from Little London, Andover, was handed a hefty sentence at Winchester Crown Court today (31 January) following a brutal stabbing incident in 2018.
Brutal Stabbing in Early Hours
Officers were called to Turin Court, Andover, at 3:11am on Monday 11 June 2018. They found William with a fatal stab wound. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Linked Case of Trespass and Assault
The same morning, police responded to a separate incident in a village near Andover. A young woman had been woken by a stranger. Harvey was arrested and later charged with trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence and assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH) in connection with this case.
Justice Served After Jury Verdict
The jury took just six hours to convict Harvey of all charges. He was sentenced to:
- 28 years for murder
- 8 years for trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence
- 2½ years for ABH
All sentences will run concurrently.
“In the early hours of Monday 11 June last year, Ben Harvey embarked on a course of action that left one man dead and others fearful for their safety,” said Detective Chief Inspector John McGonigle.
“These were disturbing incidents that have had a significant impact on the friends of William and all involved. Despite the clear evidence, Harvey’s pleas have meant that those affected have had to relive their experience in the courtroom. I would like to thank them for their courage and I hope that today’s sentence gives them some form of closure.
“I would also like to thank those paramedics and officers who attended the scenes that night and the investigation team that followed.”
