‘Exceptional Predator’ Abdul Elahi Faces Sentencing for Global Child Exploitation Spree
Abdul Elahi’s Horrific Online Crimes Exposed
Abdul Elahi, 26, from Sparkhill, Birmingham, has been slammed as “in a league of his own” for the scale of his sick online offending. The twisted predator blackmailed women into abusing babies or siblings, dangling offers to clear their debts as bait.
Elahi previously admitted 158 charges involving 72 victims across 34 countries. More than 500 victims were from the UK, with nearly 2,000 identified in the UK and US combined. His court hearing began at Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday.
Fake Stockbroker Lured Victims, Ran ‘Box Sets’ of Abuse
Elahi duped victims using a fake persona – a wealthy stockbroker offering financial help. Prosecutor Adrian Langdale QC branded him “an exceptionally dangerous predator” who viewed victims purely as money-making tools.
“The whole persona, the whole arrangement, was a sham from the very beginning,” said Langdale QC. “Victims were targeted day after day, with no let-up from Mr Elahi.”
Elahi also acted as a mentor to copycat abusers, the court heard. He created and distributed huge volumes of “box sets” of indecent images, blackmailing girls and young adults into humiliating, degrading sexual material.
67,000 Child Abuse Images Found on Devices
The hearing revealed Elahi switched chats to WhatsApp to evade detection. Over 67,000 indecent images of children were seized from his devices and cloud storage. Evidence showed Elahi carefully catalogued his horrific collection.
The abuse spanned three years from 2017 to 2019, with images sold regardless of the trauma caused.
Targeted Vulnerable Victims, Lived Off Family & McDonald’s Pay
Many victims were desperate, including mothers struggling to feed their kids or at risk of losing their homes. They were targeted on ‘sugar daddy’ websites.
Despite his crimes, Elahi lived at home and only had a brief stint working at McDonald’s as a legitimate income source. Prosecutors said he admitted this was his “full-time career and occupation.”
Elahi is due to be sentenced later – but the scale of his evil has shocked the nation.
