Knife-Wielding Youth Busted at Birmingham New Street

Jermaine Mubaraka, 20, from Barnet, London, has pleaded guilty to carrying an offensive weapon in public. The incident unfolded at Birmingham New Street station on 5 May 2023, and the case was heard at Northampton Crown Court on 17 November.

Caught Red-Handed: Rambo-Style Knife Hidden in Bag

Plainclothes officers spotted Mubaraka acting suspiciously around 1.30pm. When approached, he made a run for it, hurling a bag over a bridge where it landed atop a train. Police quickly caught him and retrieved the bag—inside was a dangerous Rambo-style knife.

Zero Tolerance for Knife Crime

“Whether we are in police uniform or in plain clothes, we always know what to look out for when it comes to suspicious activity at stations or onboard trains. Mubaraka’s behaviour that day was a clear sign he was up to no good,” said Police Constable Mason Monger.

“Carrying this kind of knife in public is a crime, even if it’s hidden away. We take a zero-tolerance approach. Mubaraka’s reckless actions could have caused devastation, and I hope he reflects on that.”

Mubaraka will serve his sentence at a young offenders facility and has been ordered to pay a £187 victim surcharge.
