Life Sentence for Brutal London Stabber

James Sinclair, 31, has been locked up for life after a chilling stabbing spree in East and North London. The Three Colt Street man was found guilty at the Old Bailey of murdering Shadika Patel and attempting to kill another woman.

Shocking Attacks in Two Days

In the early hours of March 19, 2020, Sinclair plunged a knife into 40-year-old Shadika Patel multiple times in Altmore Avenue, E6. The following day, he struck again, viciously attacking a 48-year-old woman in Belfont Walk, N7, leaving her with serious injuries, including a punctured lung.

Evidence and Arrest

  • Detectives from the Metropolitan Police combed through CCTV footage tracing Sinclair’s movements before and after the attacks.
  • Blood found on Sinclair’s trainers matched the victims, sealing his fate.
  • He was caught on March 27 after police released CCTV images of him post-murder.
  • Sinclair pleaded not guilty but refused to explain his savage motives, even shunning the courtroom.

Justice Served But Family Left Devastated

On July 8, Sinclair was sentenced to life with a minimum of 41 years for murder. He also received a concurrent life sentence with 18 years minimum for attempted murder. Time served – 830 days on remand – will be deducted.

“I am pleased with the length of the prison sentence, which reflects the severity of James Sinclair’s crimes,” said Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers. “He will now spend most of his life behind bars and no longer threatens London’s streets.”

Lead investigator Detective Inspector John Marriott added: “Sinclair’s actions have devastated Shadika’s family and left her two teenage sons motherless. It baffles me why he targeted two lone women at night. We acted quickly to stop him from attacking again.”

Met Police Vow to Protect Women

The Metropolitan Police reaffirmed their commitment to tackling violence against women and girls across London. Officers urge communities to report suspicious behaviour and seek help to stay safe.

“Women should be able to walk the streets at any hour without fear,” said officers. “These horrors have no place in society, and we’re determined to bring offenders to justice.”
