Big Drug Bust in Hitchin: Man Jailed for Five Years After Shotgun Seized
Massive Cannabis Haul and Firearm Confiscated
Police raided a property on Redhill Road, Hitchin, on Sunday 23 May 2021, uncovering a stash of cannabis worth around £5,600. Officers also seized over £7,000 in cash, a sawn-off shotgun, and a shotgun cartridge. The haul dealt a major blow to local drug dealing.
24-Year-Old Bayley Broux Caught and Sentenced
Bayley Broux, 24, from Redhill Road, was arrested at the scene. He faced charges for possession of a firearm, ammunition, and possession with intent to supply the Class B drug cannabis. Broux pleaded guilty and was hauled before St Albans Crown Court on 14 January, where he was locked up for five years.
Detective Issues Warning to Local Dealers
“I hope that Broux uses his time in prison to reflect on his choices,” said Detective Constable Rebecca Robinson, who led the investigation. “A large amount of cannabis has been removed from our streets, as well as a viable weapon.”
“Drugs fuel much of the violence and exploitation in our communities. This sentence should serve as a warning to those dealing in Hertfordshire: we will make the county safer and a tough place for criminals.”
Police Call on Public for Help
DC Robinson urged residents to report suspicious activity to help keep Hertfordshire safe. For those wary of speaking out, anonymous tips can be made via Crimestoppers.
