Violent Attack on Police in Rothwell Leads to Jail
Daniel Stocker, 32, launched a brutal assault on police officers in Bridge Street, Rothwell, after being stopped while cops searched for a van on February 7.
Tense Stand-Off Ends with Taser Struggle
Stocker refused to cooperate and went feral when officers tried to detain him. One cop drew a Taser, but during the scuffle, Stocker managed to trigger the device himself.
He fled the scene but was caught two days later. Stocker faced charges of two counts of assaulting emergency workers and a firearm offence linked to resisting arrest.
Jailed for Over Three Years After Pleading Guilty
At Northampton Crown Court on April 19, Stocker, from Gold Street, Desborough, admitted all charges, including an affray from May 2021 in Corby. He was sentenced to three years and two months, serving half behind bars and the rest on licence.
Police Chief Praises Sentencing
“Thankfully, neither officer was seriously injured despite Stocker’s reckless attack,” said Supt Steve Freeman, head of operational policing in North Northamptonshire.
“His violent reaction to routine questions was completely over the top and shows the dangers officers face doing their jobs.
“I’m glad the court has taken this seriously. Northamptonshire Police stands firm against assaults on our officers and will always prosecute offenders.”
