Greenock Man Jailed for Smuggling Illegal Handgun from Spain
A daring weapons bust has landed Scott Grant, 36, behind bars for five years. The Organised Crime Partnership—a joint task force of the NCA and Police Scotland—nabbed Grant after Border Force intercepted a dangerous firearm sent through the postal system.
Illegal Gun Seized in Postal Sting
The offending item was a forward venting blank firing handgun, illegal in the UK because it can be easily converted to fire live rounds. It was shipped from Spain, where such weapons are legal, but not on these shores.
Grant was arrested at his Greenock home on 14 May 2020. Police found more than just the illegal gun. A crossbow, knives, a ballistic vest, and a second legal blank-firing weapon were also seized during the raid.
Justice Served at Edinburgh High Court
Grant pleaded guilty and faced the judge yesterday (5 January) at Edinburgh High Court. He was sentenced to a five-year stretch for purchasing a prohibited weapon.
“There is absolutely no place for illegal firearms in our communities,” said officials. “We will use all resources to fight serious and organised crime and bring offenders to justice.”
