Man Drives Car Into Police Station and Sets Fire in Bizarre Arson Attack
Adam Pawlowski, 46, from Enfield, has been hit with a 12-month driving ban and slapped with an extended driving test after a shocking rampage at a police station. The terrifying incident unfolded on the evening of 11 November 2020 at Wood Green Crown Court, where Pawlowski pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, criminal damage, and attempted arson reckless to life.
Car Crashes Into Police Station Front Doors
At around 7pm, Pawlowski drove his car straight into the police station doors before revving the engine, filling the front office with thick smoke. But it got worse. He then grabbed a petrol canister from his vehicle, splashed petrol inside the station’s front office and on the surrounding pavement, and set it all on fire.
A member of the public bravely tackled Pawlowski until officers arrived and swiftly put out the flames. Thankfully, no one was hurt during the attack, and damage to the building was minor.
Planned Attack Linked to Police Grudge
During custody, Pawlowski revealed he had been plotting the attack for two and a half years, picking the date and time for personal reasons. Investigations uncovered he held a grudge against police due to past encounters, including the loss of his stolen car during a police probe.
Authorities quickly dismissed any terror links, calling it a disturbing personal vendetta.
Officers and Public Praised for Bravery
Chief Superintendent Simon Crick said, “When shown footage of the attack, Pawlowski laughed, but his actions could have caused devastating consequences. The officers displayed courage and professionalism in a frightening, chaotic situation to detain him quickly.”
“We are also grateful to the unidentified member of the public who intervened. Despite our efforts, they were never traced, but their bravery was critical.”
The judge acknowledged the shock and fear Pawlowski’s attack caused, commending the police for their rapid response which prevented a far worse outcome.
