Son Stabs Dad to Death in Nelson Family Horror
A Nelson man who brutally killed his father with multiple stabs and blows in their shared home has been handed an indefinite hospital order alongside a life sentence.
Indefinite Hospital Stay with Life Sentence to Follow
Judge Simon Medland QC ruled that Joe Walker, 33, will remain detained in a hospital setting indefinitely. If doctors ever declare him fit for release, he must start serving a minimum 12 years of a life prison sentence before even being considered by the Parole Board.
Bleach and Blood: Crime Scene Attempted to Be Cleaned
Police were called to Fir Street, Nelson, at 3.25pm on May 22 last year. They found 65-year-old Thomas Walker dead in the living room, showing signs of a savage attack. A strong bleach smell indicated attempts to clean the scene.
Joe Walker had already called a family member to confess his dad was dead and was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.
Obsession with Covid and Drug Use Sparked Deadly Rage
- Investigators uncovered Joe’s obsession with coronavirus information on social media, which sparked arguments with his dad.
- Thomas had sought advice days earlier over Joe’s worsening violent behaviour, including threats with a knife.
- A Home Office pathologist confirmed Thomas died from a “sustained and forceful multi-mode assault” involving multiple stab and severe head injuries.
- Judge Medland branded Joe “dangerous,” highlighting his use of cocaine and cannabis despite knowing the impact on his mental health.
- Walker had staged the scene by placing a knife in his father’s hand and attempted to clean up post-attack.
DCI Lee Wilson said: “This is a truly tragic case. My thoughts remain with the family who have shown tremendous strength throughout.
“Joe Walker clearly needs treatment, but I’m glad the public are protected by a life sentence if he is ever released.”
