Knife-Wielding Man Jailed Just Days After Terrifying Asda Incident
James Cable was sentenced to a year behind bars only three days after frightening shoppers and staff by brandishing a knife inside an Asda store.
Brandishing Knife Sparks Panic at Asda
The 33-year-old stormed into the shop just after 10.30pm on 30 September 2022. He grabbed a knife from a display packet and, when challenged by staff, shockingly told an employee to call the police. Cable then warned 999 operators he would stab someone if officers didn’t arrive fast.
Swift Police Response Leads to Arrest
A firearms unit raced to the scene and arrested Cable without delay. Police found a craft knife hidden in his shorts, while the kitchen knife he carried was recovered behind a checkout.
Guilty Plea Nets Custodial Sentence
Cable, from Griff Lane, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, faced two counts of possessing a knife in public and failing to provide a drug test sample while in custody. He pleaded guilty at Medway Magistrates’ Court and was sentenced on 3 October.
PC Daniel Cane said: “Cable walked around the store armed with a large knife, causing considerable alarm to staff members and the public. We remain committed to maintaining a robust, proactive and zero tolerance approach to knife crime and welcome the custodial sentence passed by the courts.”
“There can never be any justification for carrying a weapon on our streets. We will keep deploying uniformed and plain-clothes officers to catch and deter criminals.”
