‘Reservoir Dogs’ Scene Inspired Brutal 1998 Acid Attack – Killer Jailed for Life After Victim Dies 24 Years Later

Steven Craig, 59, was finally locked up for murder after an acid attack on Jackie Kirk nearly a quarter of a century ago. The savage assault, reportedly inspired by a scene from the cult film Reservoir Dogs, left Jackie fighting for her life in 1998. Now, following her death in 2019 from complications linked to the attack, Craig has been handed a life sentence with no chance of parole.

From GBH to Murder – Killer’s Sentence Upgraded After Victim’s Death

Back in 2000, Craig was convicted of causing grievous bodily harm after setting Jackie Kirk ablaze in Weston-super-Mare. Jackie survived, enduring a month-long coma and devastating injuries that changed her life forever. Though Craig served 18 years, he walked free—until the victim’s death forced a murder trial.

Last month, a Bristol Crown Court jury found Craig guilty of murder, ruling the horrific injuries he inflicted caused Jackie’s death in 2019. Mrs Justice Stacey sentenced him to 34 years behind bars, with 18 years already served deducted. The judge ordered a minimum 15-year term without parole.

‘Monstrous, Sadistic Attack’ – Judge Slams ‘Abusive, Misogynistic’ Killer

“There is no doubt you planned and intended a gratuitous, deliberate, and monstrous attack on Jackie with whatever means at your disposal,” Mrs Justice Stacey said during sentencing.

“Your behaviour was sadistic. The attack was premeditated and planned. You forced her into submission, bent her to your will with abusive behaviour and misogyny.”

She blasted Craig for lying to police, fabricating a story about a gang attack and blaming Jackie for spilling petrol on herself.

Shocking Crime Details: Petrol Doused then Set Ablaze

On April 18, 1998, Steven Craig doused Jackie Kirk, then 40 and a devoted mother, with gasoline before setting her on fire. The inferno nearly killed her and left her horribly disfigured. She was rushed into a medically induced coma and later survived with lifelong injuries.

In August 2019, Jackie was admitted to Royal United Hospital, Bath. Doctors discovered that scar tissue from her horrific burns caused internal swelling, rupturing her diaphragm and preventing her abdomen from expanding properly. These complications directly led to her death.

Landmark Case Hinged on Legal Changes and Advances in Medicine

Ben Samples from the Crown Prosecution Service explained how legal reforms enabled the murder charge:

“The law changed in the mid-90s to reflect advances in medical care. This allows prosecution for murder if someone dies later from injuries sustained previously.”

Craig denied the murder charge, but the jury’s verdict brought justice for Jackie Kirk after 24 years—finally closing a horrific chapter on this appalling crime.
