Predator Caught in Online Sting Faces Prison
David Asser, 49, of Hertford Road, Enfield, has been slammed with a 28-month prison sentence for trying to groom a supposed 12-year-old girl online. The wolf pleaded guilty at Wood Green Crown Court on 25 August to two counts: attempting sexual communication with a child under 16 and trying to meet a child following grooming.
Twisted Online Chat Leads to Trap
Asser began chatting in November 2020 in an online chatroom, where the ‘girl’ made it clear she was just 12. Undeterred, Asser kept sending sexually explicit messages and arranged to meet her. Unknown to him, the girl was actually an adult working with a vigilante group.
Foiled Meeting and Arrest
When Asser turned up at the prearranged spot on Mandeville Road, Enfield, on 7 December, he was confronted and detained by an online civilian group. Police arrived and arrested him. Officers later seized evidence from Asser’s home exposing his vile grooming attempts.
Police Condemn Asser’s Actions
DC Jeffrey from North Area Command Unit said: “David Asser knew the age of the girl he thought he was speaking to yet still made explicit suggestions and tried to meet her. His actions are deplorable and it’s right he has been held to account.”
Asser will also be on the Sex Offenders Register for ten years, ensuring he is tracked long after his release.
