Morecambe Man Gets 7½ Years for Brutal Knife Attack

David Brindle, 33, from Heysham Road, Morecambe, was sentenced yesterday at Preston Crown Court after admitting a savage assault last November.

Victim Seriously Injured in Late-Night Attack

Police were called just after 10pm on November 19 to Littledale Avenue, Morecambe. They discovered a man in his 30s with deep, terrifying cuts to his cheek and neck.

  • A 16cm wound ran from the victim’s ear to his nose.
  • Another 6cm knife slash on his neck narrowly missed the jugular vein by just 4mm.

The victim was rushed to hospital with life-changing injuries.

Brindle Attacked Victim Over False Burglar Suspicions

Detectives quickly zeroed in on Brindle as the culprit. Investigations revealed he believed the victim had burgled a property linked to him earlier that evening — a suspicion that turned out to be false.

Brindle was arrested and charged with section 18 wounding with intent.

Heavy Sentence Reflects Severity of Crime

He pleaded guilty and was handed a prison sentence of seven years and six months, plus an extended three-year licence period.

Det Con Peter Bennett, Lancaster CID: “This was a shocking and horrific attack which left the victim with life-changing injuries.”

“It is only pure good fortune this did not become a murder investigation, with a knife wound narrowly missing the victim’s jugular vein.”

“Brindle was quickly arrested, pleading guilty to the offence. His sentence reflects the gravity of the crime and gives him significant time to consider the impact of his actions.”
