Spitting Scoundrel Jailed After Targeting London Bus Driver Amid Pandemic
Rude Fare Turns Ugly on Bus
Michael Aidoo, 44, homeless and trouble on the loose, faced Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, March 25, admitting to common assault.
It all kicked off on the morning of Saturday, February 13. Aidoo hopped on the No. 436 bus along Queens Road in Peckham.
Refusing to pay, he brushed past the driver. When stopped, the foul-mouthed thug flew into a rage, pulled down his face mask, and spat straight at the driver’s protective screen before storming off the bus.
Quick-Thinking Driver Seals Perp’s Fate
Luckily, a screen shielded the driver from direct hit. Thinking fast, the driver swabbed the spit sample and handed it to Lewisham Police.
DNA matched Aidoo perfectly. Cops nabbed him at Vauxhall Railway Station on Wednesday, March 24, thanks to Safer Transport Teams.
Justice Served — Jail Time and Fine
Court slammed Aidoo with an 18-week jail stretch and a £128 victim surcharge.
Detective Sergeant Ian Beattie of the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command said: “This was a disgusting act against a key worker providing an essential service during lockdown. To be spat at is completely unacceptable. The custodial sentence fits the crime.”
“Spitting is disgraceful anytime, but during a pandemic it’s even more shocking. We will not tolerate this behaviour.”
