Jailed for Suffocating Ex in Horrific 18-Month Abuse Spree
A Fulham man who suffocated his ex-girlfriend and terrorised her for 18 months has been slapped with a 2½-year jail sentence.
Chakib Aoual’s Reign of Terror
Chakib Aoual, 23, from Fulham Park Gardens, admitted controlling and coercive behaviour during their toxic relationship. Isleworth Crown Court handed down the sentence on Wednesday, 5 August, and slapped him with a restraining order banning any contact with the victim.
Physical, Emotional Abuse and Shocking Threats
The court revealed Aoual’s brutal treatment, which included slamming the victim’s arm in a bathroom door to stop her calling the police. He even threatened to kill her dog, abusing the pet to break her spirit.
- He hid her glasses to trap her at home.
- Used her bank card without permission.
- Smashed up her flat.
- Squandered £40,000 of her inheritance.
Victim Held Prisoner in Her Own Home
Detective Constable Chris Wiley from the Met’s Safeguarding Unit slammed Aoual’s actions. “He took complete control of his victim’s life, making her a prisoner in her own home,” he said. “His behaviour was utterly unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”
He also praised the victim’s bravery for reporting the abuse in November 2019.
