Life Behind Bars for Cold-Blooded Killer of Teen
Godfrey Tanishe Madondo, 20, from Southwark, has been jailed for life after brutally murdering 19-year-old Jeremiah Sewell. Despite fleeing the scene, Madondo was swiftly tracked down and found guilty at the Central Criminal Court on 3 July.
He was sentenced on 7 July to life imprisonment, with a minimum 24-year term to serve.
Fatal Stabbing in Beckenham Place Park
Jeremiah Sewell was stabbed twice in the neck while sitting defenseless in the back of a parked car in Lewisham’s Beckenham Place Park in the early hours of 16 July 2022. He had been socialising with friends, enjoying music, when Madondo’s car suddenly arrived around 04:25.
The motive remains a mystery. Witnesses heard someone ask Jeremiah where he was from moments before the savage attack. Madondo then fled at speed in his vehicle.
Jeremiah was rushed to Lewisham Hospital by friends but died shortly after arrival. Police launched a homicide inquiry immediately.
Detectives Crack the Case with CCTV and Witnesses
Police pieced together the killer’s movements through CCTV footage showing Madondo entering a Peckham shop before the attack. Witness testimony and forensic evidence built an airtight case.
Madondo was arrested the day after the murder but refused to answer questions, showing no remorse.
Accomplices to Face Justice
Two others, Khelsi Johnson-Davis and Leah Simmonds, both 20 and from SE15, will be sentenced for perverting the course of justice at the Old Bailey on 24 August.
Detective Chief Inspector Chris Wood, Met’s Specialist Crime Command: “Jeremiah’s murder was an utterly senseless and barbaric act. He was sitting defenceless and posed no threat. Madondo has never explained why or taken responsibility, leaving Jeremiah’s family with no answers. While nothing can undo that night, we hope these convictions bring some justice for Jeremiah’s loved ones.”
