Knife Attack in River Walk: Teen Jailed for Four Years
On the evening of 24 March 2021, a man in his 20s was stabbed several times after an argument with Deejay Evans and another man he knew. The victim was left bleeding but managed to stagger to the High Street, where good Samaritans rushed in with first aid and called emergency services.
Evans Tries to Cover His Tracks
Evans dropped the knife after the attack but quickly grabbed it back and threw it into the river before fleeing the scene. Police launched an urgent investigation and arrested Evans within hours at his New Wharf Road home.
Swift Justice Served at Maidstone Crown Court
At Maidstone Crown Court on 16 September, 18-year-old Evans pled guilty to wounding with intent and carrying a blade in public. Just weeks later, on 19 November, he was sentenced to four years behind bars.
Detective Chief Inspector Condemns Brutal Attack
“This was an extremely violent assault on a young man who was fortunate to receive prompt help from members of the public and paramedics,” said Detective Chief Inspector Neil Kimber of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate.
“The victim continues to recover physically and emotionally. Evans showed no concern for his victim and tried to hide evidence by dumping the knife in the river.”
“Thanks to the quick work of officers on the scene, Evans was caught swiftly and brought to justice.”
