Lucky escape for driver thrown from flipped car in shocking crash
Car Rolls, Driver Ejected in Dramatic Accident
William Orchard, 36, from Bradford-on-Avon, was hurled from his Ford Fiesta after the car flipped at 6pm on November 17 last year. When police arrived, the vehicle was found upside down in a field. Orchard was discovered lying on his back in the nearby undergrowth, having been thrown clear as the car rolled.
Refused Blood Test After Hospital Treatment
Orchard was rushed to the Royal United Hospital by ambulance. While there, he refused to provide an evidential blood sample, raising further questions about the cause of the crash.
Guilty Pleas in Court
At Salisbury Magistrates Court, Orchard admitted to driving without a licence, without insurance, and failing to give a specimen for analysis. He was handed a 12-month driving ban, an 18-month community order with 200 hours of unpaid work, plus £199 in court costs and surcharges.
Police Warn Against Unlicensed Driving
“This case just illustrates the dangers of getting behind the wheel without a licence,” said Roads Policing Unit A/Insp Will Ayres. “It’s senseless and shows a total disregard for other road users and pedestrians.Orchard couldn’t recall the accident, but it’s believed he was thrown clear when his car flipped from the road into a field. He was incredibly lucky to escape serious injury, especially as the crash happened during a busy time.”
