PC Thomas Andrews Jailed for Assault – Off-Duty Cop Faces Misconduct Hearing
PC Thomas Andrews was slapped with charges on 11 July 2022 after a probe by the South East Command Unit. He later pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm at Woolwich Crown Court on 19 January.
On Monday, 6 March, Andrews was sentenced and handed a restraining order. A misconduct hearing is set to follow ASAP.
Public Action Leads to Arrest
The drama unfolded in the early hours of 9 July 2022 in Brockley Rise, SE23. Members of the public alerted officers to the incident around 1am.
Patrolling cops found a man who identified as PC Andrews – an off-duty officer with the Central South Command Unit. A woman, known to Andrews, reported being pushed to the ground, suffering grazes. Andrews was arrested on the spot.
Met Police Take No Prisoners on Misconduct
The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards quickly stepped in, suspending Andrews from duty immediately.
Detective Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh said: “I am saddened by this incident and grateful to members of the public who raised the alarm, resulting in PC Andrews’ prompt arrest. Under the leadership of Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley, everyone in the Met is clear that we must root out those who corrupt the integrity of our organisation. This will take time, but we are absolutely committed to achieving high standards.”
Justice served and the Met is sending a strong message: no one is above the law – not even one of their own.
